The southwestern state of Ogun in Nigeria is more prominent for its rocky parts, but this is not just all that it is made up of.

The capital city, Abeokuta (meaning under the rock), confirms the notion that the city is filled with rocks, but this is contrary to what Naij.com has discovered.

A recent visit to the town showed that houses are being built beside rocks and occasionally, the rocks looked like they were going to fall on the houses.

In a bid to unravel the mystery behind the houses being built side by side with the rocks, Naij.com’s photojournalist and correspondent went further up the mountainous areas to check out how the houses managed to stand beside the rocks and at times, on top of the rocks.

Below are photos from the search:

– Some concerned PDP leaders kicks against the choice of Ali Modu Sheriff as the party’s new chairman

– The PDP leaders urge Sheriff to resign

– They demand a better chairman, one with discernible traits

There are indications of a looming crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a group of concerned stakeholders and elders of the party have called on the new National Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff, to resign.

The group, under the aegis of PDP Rescue Group led by Wilberforce Juta, who also contested for PDP chairmanship, made the call during a news conference on Sunday, February 21, in Abuja.

According to Juta, the PDP leaders were upset about Ali Modu Sheriff’s appointment as PDP national chairman, Premium Times reports.

He said: “Most PDP members did not see in Sheriff a model of impeccable integrity that the party badly needed to lead it at this critical moment.

“We are upset by the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party in appointing Ali Modu Sheriff as national chairman.

“We are convinced that this decision is against the will and wish of the generality of members.

“We know for a fact the North-East Zonal wing, having been directed by the National Caucus of the party to forward nominees from the zone, did not nominate Modu-Sheriff for the position of national chairman.

“Consequently, Modu-Sheriff should do the needful by stepping down honourably as it is evident that party members nationwide have overwhelmingly rejected him.

“Having the PDP destroyed by acts of error of judgment being witnessed now, is denying Nigeria of a strong opposition party that is badly needed if Nigeria’s democracy is to be strengthened and all tendencies toward civilian dictatorship checked.

“The crisis must challenge all party members to action to halt the party from further drift. The plan of PDP Rescue Group is to mobilise party members and leaders to help attain this noble goal.

“It is, therefore, critical if the PDP must come back to national reckoning, that we remodel its leadership on the platform of honesty as required by the party manifesto.”

“It is our considered view that we endeavour to elect only those with discernible traits.”

Top Nigerian politician, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has shared the amazing story of how his first son was born in a Nigerian hospital.

Naij.com had  on February 1, 2016, after the father told our correspondent that, “we have a beautiful baby boy.”

And in an explosive interview with City People, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, explained how he was with the wife until she was delivered of their bundle of joy.

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode’s newly-born baby boy.

Read excerpts below:

How did you take the news of your new wife having a son?
With immense joy. I was very, very happy.

What is the significance of that to you?
Aragon is my pride, my joy, and my strength. He means everything to me. He will carry on my name and he will build on the noble legacy and heritage of his illustrious fore fathers. Actually, I have 5 daughters and not 4. First there is Folake, who is 28 years old and who works in a Law firm in the UK. Then, there is Remi who is a stunningly beautiful 18 year old and who is now preparing to go to University in the UK. I am close to them both, I am very proud of them and I love them both deeply.

Interestingly, Remi’s mother, Madame Regina is Aragon’s godmother. We are all very close. I have 3 other daughters as well, but sadly I have no contact with them. I did not feel bad about not having a son before now, because I love my 2 daughters deeply and I thank God for them. I knew that having a son was just a matter of time because God had said so. He never fails and he has fulfilled His promise. Glory be to His name.

Were you with her when she delivered or were you called?
Yes, I was right there. I saw every thing. I had never done that before. It was a remarkable experience. What mothers go through during child birth is amazing. Precious did so well. I am very proud of her. She is precious to me. The whole thing humbled me.

READ ALSO:

With Precious giving you a son does that make her special to you?
Very special. She has always been special to me. But she is even more special now. Her name is Precious and she is a precious gift from God.

Are you going to name him after you?
We have given him several names. His names are Joshua Oluwafemi Emmanuel Lotanna Aragon Fani-Kayode. His first name, Joshua means The Lord Saves. His second name, Oluwafemi means the beloved of the Lord and I share that name with him. His third name, Emmanuel means The Lord Is Us and his great paternal grandfather, Rev Emmanuel Kayode, shares that names with him. His growth name, Lotanna is Igbo and it means Remembering The Father. His fifth name, Aragon is Sindalese and it means “Kingly Warrior”. Each and everyone of these names was carefully chosen and each of them has a special and peculiar significance to me, his mother and all our family members. But I shall call him Aragorn.

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode in the hospital while the wife was about to put to bed.

How does it feel as a proud father having your 1st son at a matured age?
I feel delighted knowing that God’s time is the best and that it is better late then never. It also represents a great and wonderful testimony for me that no matter how long it takes, God always honours His word. He said that He would give me my own son and He did. Glory be to Him. The whole thing has reinvigorated and strengthened my faith in the Lord. It has given me new life and it has brought me even closer to Him.

Was your baby boy born in Nigeria. Which hospital?
He was born in Nigeria at DFF Hospital in Aso Drive, Maitama, Abuja. The hospital is first class and the doctors, nurses and staff were simply wonderful. I believe that DFF may well be the best maternity hospital in our country and it is just around that corner from my house. So it was very convenient.

Throughout the nine months that Precious was pregnant, they took great care of her and she was under the direct supervision and care of Dr Idahosa, the owner of the hospital. It made absolute sense for her to have the baby there instead of abroad because we had total confidence in Idahosa and his team. Besides which, even though Precious initially wanted to have him abroad, I explained to her that none of my children had ever been born in Nigeria and I wanted my first son to be born here just as I was. I also told her that my father had also been born abroad in the UK in 1921 and I always found that rather strange. I wanted at least my first son to be born here. Thankfully she agreed, and the rest in history.

– Rivers United coach says beating the champions is no big deal

The head coach of Enyimba football club Paul Aigbogun has disclosed that he is not under pressure, following their defeat in the opening fixture of the 2015/2016 Nigeria premier league against Rivers United.

"Paul Aigbogun say he is not under pressure"

Paul Aigbogun

A superb freekick in the 71st minute by Frederick Obomate was enough for Rivers United to defeat the league champions at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt.

READ ALSO:

Apparently worried, Aigbogun comported himself while speaking with journalists after the game and assured that his team will bounce back, adding that the goals will definitely come.

He said: “I am not under pressure. We are doing our very best and we know what we have to do on the continent and I just pray that the goals we did not score today will come when we are playing our continental game.”

However, Coach Stanley Eguma of Rivers United has expressed delight that the team has started on a very good note, but stated clearly that it is not the time to celebrate.

“I feel very happy,” he started. “I know it’s a gradual process. We just started well and hope that it would end well. The boys are young and most of them are coming together for the first time. We really have a lot to do.

“Beating Enyimba today is not a big deal. It is just one match out of 38. So, we will keep our hopes alive and will work on the mistakes we have made today.

"Rivers United coach, Stanley Eguma"

Speaking ahead of their next game away to MFM FC of Lagos, Eguma posited that it is going to be a tough one, especially for a side that has just found it’s way to the elite league.

“It is a big game and there is no time to underrate any team. We can not afford to underrate them. The fact that they are in the premier league is a big threat to our ambition, so we will go there with our arsenals and be more determined,” he raved.

It would be recalled that after the League Management Company (LMC) granted the Garden City based teams approval to merge into one.

He said: “It is instructive to note that the PDP had won 70% of all the polls conducted since May 29, 2015, a development that underlines the fact of its deep roots and popularity as a brand, irrespective of the transitory setback of the 2015 general elections.

“We therefore call on all members of our great party to respond to the gesture by Nigerians by uniting behind the ideals of the PDP and visions of its founding fathers and reposition the party for the challenges ahead.

“In this regard, the leadership of the party; the National Working Committee, the PDP Governors’ Forum, the National Caucus, the PDP Caucus in the National Assembly and the Board of Trustees (BoT) are working very hard to ensure that we have a strong party poised to regain power in 2019.

“Finally, we reiterate our call to all PDP elected and appointed office holders across the country to reciprocate the renewed support by Nigerians by redoubling their efforts in patriotically exerting themselves in serving the people in line with the models provided by the ideology of our great party.”

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has dissociated itself from letters inviting members of the public for recruitment into the corporation.

READ ALSO:

According to The Tribune, the corporation in a release on Sunday, February 21 by Ohi Alegbe, the group general manager public affairs division, warned that such invitations were from fraudsters.

Alegbe said the letters been sent to unsuspecting individuals inviting them for “the second process of recruitment” was a scam as the corporation was currently not currently recruiting.

He therefore, urged the public to ignore the invitation directing recipients to pay N21,500 into an account with Zenith Bank, saying “anyone who entertains such invitations or deals with peddlers of such invitations does so at his or her own risk”.

He urged persons who may have been contacted for employment to report to the relevant law enforcement agencies for appropriate action to be taken against the fraudsters.

This is not the first time a government agency will be alerting Nigerians to a recruitment scam being peddled by fraudsters.

Sometime in January, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment warned Nigerians about a recruitment online scam calling for jobless youths to submit their curriculum vitae for job placements.

Likewise, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, February 15, dissociated itself from adverts on employment from the commission.

According to a statement signed by the head, media and publicity of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, in Abuja, the scam was to mislead vulnerable Nigerians and tarnish the reputation of the commission.

“Distinguished Senator Murray-Bruce, you are indeed a rare gem and a gift to Bayelsa state and the Ijaw nation. Your innovative and creative talents have in the last three decades projected the people and cultures of our land to the world stage. Today, things that were thought to be exclusive preserves of the western world have been made a part of our society, because you took the bold initiative to venture into them.

“As a first time Senator, you have already achieved remarkable milestones and carved an enviable niche for yourself and indeed our people through your now famous ‘I just want to make Common Sense’ cliché, that has clearly become one of the most widely accepted political slogans of our time.”

– Henry Omoregie says the present government will offer Nigerians nothing

– Insists that Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda was all Nigeria needed

– Says the government is only witch-hunting and not fighting corruption

One of Nigeria’s foremost social, political, environmental and human rights activist, Henry Omoregie has stated that the present government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari has nothing to offer Nigerians.

In this interview with Naij.com, the 50-year-old trained psychologist, safety trainer and field recruiter disclosed that Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda would have taken the country to the ‘promised land’, adding that the government of the day is full deceit of the highest order, witch-hunting and world record cluelessness.

Excerpts:

Sir, you seem to be too passionate about the past administration, what’s the drive for that?
This question is odd to me. I am passionate about humanity in general. I am passionate about peace and progress of mankind regardless of whose ox is gored. And that is why I should be passionate about my own country.

It’s my own immediate enclave. Even before Ex-President Jonathan was reluctantly sworn in statutorily as president, I led a social media campaign in December 2009, to get Nigeria off the United States list of terror-friendly nations after the Umar Abdulmutallab debacle.

That said, comparatively, in a democratic setting, there is no gainsaying the fact that the past administration was closest to the Nigerian Dream.

No, I am not talking about a hegemonistic Nigerian dream where others are thought of as slaves in their own country (albeit geographical expression) to other ethnic nationalities who fixate on ‘born-to-rule’ as an ideology.

"Omoregie blasts Buhari-led FG, Says Nigeria has changed for worse"

Henry Omoregie

A meta-analysis of thousands of news items on TransformationWatch showed that GEJ is actually the best elected president by miles in Nigerian and arguably African history.

In 5 years, Jonathan and his ‘crack team of advisers’ and ministers made Nigeria the beautiful bride of global investors, while empowering indigenous farmers and SMEs with tools of their trades for optimal creation of utility.

Manufacturing began to blossom, car manufacturing became domesticated via the implementation of the National Automotive Policy, dry season farming was introduced to cushion the effect of the devastating 2012 flooding.

Doomsday protagonists had predicted food shortages, alas there was none. Nigerians instead went on to enjoy the cheapest and most affordable commodities prices during the Yuletide of 2014.

In just 90 days, a 40 year old fertilizer scam mafia was busted. In 2010/2011, Nigerians trapped in the wake of the Arab Spring in Egypt and Libya were evacuated to safety. It is on record that we had our citizens evacuated from Egypt long before David Cameron evacuated Britons trapped there.

A few months into his administration, Jonathan increased minimum wage from N7,500 to N18,500 and the NYSC allowance from N7,500 to N18,500.

His administration created the YouWin for young entrepreneurs and parts of the scooped funds of the fraudulent subsidy regime he attempted to knock off were used by SureP ( an intervention agency he established) to subsidize construction of roads and provision of healthcare facilities in mostly rural areas.

Nigerian Railway systems were brought back to life after 25 years of being comatose. Indeed many Nigerians are unaware that goods are now ferried off Apapa Wharf by rail straight to Kano!

The 100 year-old Official Secrets Act was replaced with Freedom of Information Act, making government a real time open door administration.

Tens of thousands of kilometres of roads were either rehabilitated or constructed like never before as attested to by even Fashola, his most virulent critic, now Power, Works and Housing Minister under Buhari.

Power privatization was fast tracked and the Agric revolution significantly reduced our import bills. Nigeria became the largest economy in Africa.

The Almajiri schools system was established for the itinerant kids who roamed about in most northern big cities with empty plates seeking leftovers and unsure of their future.

There was improved pay packages for lecturers and overseas studies for specially gifted graduates. Prompt payment of workers’ salaries was a trademark of Jonathan’s administration.

Construction of dozens of dams and the remodelling of the airports. He began the 2nd Niger Bridge and completed the dredging of the River Niger to Baro in Niger state.

35% of Jonathan’s appointees were women as he promised during his campaigns in 2011. The very first sets of female cadets graduated from the NDA under President Jonathan. Most of them, including his male ministers, have moved on to higher callings both internationally and locally.

14 federal universities were established for all Nigerians by Jonathan/Sambo in less than 5 years while Obasanjo and Atiku built one each for themselves in 8 years!

INEC was virtually independent under Jonathan. For the very first time in Nigeria’s political history, 6 different political parties had governors either elected or determined by court verdicts without interference from the executive.

Labour Party, CPC, A.C.N, APGA, ANPP and the PDP had guber aspirants victorious without any inconclusiveness from INEC.

The man who designed our National Flag, hitherto unrecognized by virtually all the previous military and elected leaders of our nation was not just given a befitting National Award but was rewarded with a house in the FCT and placed on a life salary.
Over 80,000 ghost workers were exorcised, saving us trillions of naira in just months.

No Nigerian was arrested and jailed for insulting Jonathan. Federal Character principle in appointments was religiously adhered to. I could go on and on.

The National Confab report and the 2015 transition programs were the icing on the cake for this world record achiever. Who wouldn’t be passionate about such an incredible human being?

How can you rate the present administration?

The present administration is a personification of political Ponzi Schemes, deceit of the highest order, witch-hunting and world record cluelessness.

Cashing in on the gullibility of millions of semi-literates, illiterates and ignoramuses to hoodwink people who have no inkling of what corruption really means. It was never prepared for governance but fully prepared for anarchy – blood-soaked dogs and baboons, parallel government and all that…

A classic example is the minister of information saying that despite the monumental fraud discovered by Nigerians from all walks of life, the 2016 budget is blemishless because the re-submitted version does not exceed the originally nominated 6.08 trillion naira!

A Nigeria which the current administration inherited Jonathan as fastest growing in Africa did not even make the top 6 fastest growing countries for 2016 according to McKinsey.

Have you seen any change in the present administration?

Yes of course. Change for the worse!

The Naira has continued to weaken against the Dollar where it is changed for about N400, what does this imply for the Nigerian economy?

Doom. Prices of goods especially via derived demand have skyrocketed. Cost of services too.

The Supreme Court recently upheld the election of Governor Nyesom Wike, what’s your take?

The Supreme Court saved our democracy by acting rightly on the principle of Judicial Precedence. One rule for everybody.

Is the present government winning the corruption war?

I don’t see any corruption war going on. The present government lacks the moral rights to say it is fighting corruption. Since when has selective witch-hunting become a fight against corruption?

Corruption is fraudulent conduct, moral depravity and dishonesty. Not just official graft. You cannot snub submitted evidences of fraud levelled against members of your cabinet and chase others not in your good books, and tell us you are fighting corruption.

You cannot seal off alleged or accused people from the public and deprive them of proper court processes, try them on pages of newspapers and tell us you are fighting corruption.

READ ALSO:

You cannot come to power by threatening peoples’ lives and tell us you are incorruptible. You cannot deny campaign promises and tell us you have integrity. I don’t see any fight against corruption. Allow the courts to do their jobs. The press is not the judiciary.

What’s your advise for Nigerians?

Nigerians should look up the meaning of corruption in an English Dictionary before deceiving themselves that the present administration is fighting corruption

– World acclaimed Broadway musical Sister Act is coming to Nigeria

– It will have an all-Nigerian cast

– Audition for Sister Act is between February 25-27

World acclaimed Broadway musical Sister Act will be in Nigeria later in 2016 and it will parade an all-Nigerian cast.

Sister Act is one of the most successful musical theatre productions of all time. Based on the 1992 film of the same name, Sister Act tells the story of aspiring disco diva Deloris Van Cartier who having witnessed her gangster (and married) boyfriend commit a murder ends up in hiding in a convent whose parish has fallen on hard times. Though the sequin-free lifestyle doesn’t agree with her, Deloris finds her calling working with the choir, and breathes new life into the dusty convent while discovering a sisterhood she’s never had before.

Its Nigerian production is the brainchild of Nigerian manufacturer Dr Soji Akinkugbe in collaboration with top executives of the prestigious Waterfront Theatre Company, Cape Town, South Africa.

Akinkugbe has long nursed a vision to produce international musical hits with Nigerian casts. He also desires to use the productions to create a training platform that would transform raw local talents and skills into best standards available around the world.  He has been a regular patron of many theatrical productions at home and abroad, especially in southern parts of Africa.

Through his association with one of the doyennes of South African Theatre, Delia Sainsbury, and her business partner Paul Griffiths, Akinkugbe’s vision is one step closer to being realised in the production of Sister Act scheduled for the MUSON Centre, Onikan Lagos later in 2016. He says he believes strongly in the talents of Nigerians to realise a world-class production of the play.

Colours in Africa productions is spearheading the project with support from 2wice As Nice a firm headed by the actress and businesswoman Elvina Ibru.

There will be a three-day audition/ workshop in Lagos from February 25-27.

As the value of Naira continues to depreciate and the uncertainty of the stock market, many people have come to realization that the oldest form of investment of owning land is the surest guard against inflation.

When the stock market was booming, many sold their properties, took loans, took their live savings to cash in the then latest windfall.

Before they know what was going on, the market came crashing to low ebb thus leaving many people in debt and poverty.

This old wisdom still remains valid. Land appreciate, it does not depreciate. Now that many folks have bought into this reasoning. It is important to know that given Nigeria peculiar challenge where some land grabbers commonly called Omonile in the southwest sometimes sell one land to several persons, it is important to know what kind of documents that can help in such case. Also, the proper thing to do in purchasing a piece of land.

Not following the proper process can lead to lose of earned money, debt, stroke and other fatal problems if not properly managed. In some cases, two persons will be laying claims to the same land which could lead to legal quagmire.

In order to avoid all these needless headaches and problems, there are four kinds of documents that will validate your land ownership and thereby  elucidated below.

1. Mode of payment:

How to prove land ownership in Nigeria

Many land grabbers (Omonile) want cash for payment of land. Many people have ignorantly paid in cash. One problem of cash payment for land is that it is  untraceable in time of problem. The cash paid will be shared immediately by the member of the family and if there is a problem on ownership, this method of payment would not hold water.

The best method of payment should be through bank cheque or draft and there must be a witness to the transaction. The role of the witness is to help in time of dispute.

According to a legal practitioner and properties consultant, Barrister Matthew Ottah, the legal way to prove landownership is through production of Documents of Title. In order word, you must have more documents to back up your claim as the real owner of the land over the other person laying claim to the same land.

The receipt must bear the family name that is selling the land, date of purchase, location of the land, amount paid and family address. Anything short of this is a red flag. Do not toy with you future, make proper due diligence before you part with your money, because once the money leaves your hand, the chance of reclaiming it is very slim.

3. Deed of Assignment or Conveyance:
