– Rafael Benitez speaks about the player who will become the best in two years
– The Spaniard was dismissed after less than six months in Real
The former head coach of Real Madrid developed a close working relationship with Bale, and the Welshman grew into a central figure in his attack during his short-lived reign.
Benitez said: “I never had a moment’s problem with Gareth. He was a very solid professional who listened.
The 55-year-old explained: “He did his work on the pitch and in the gym too. But what I see in him most is improvement. There are areas of his game that he continues to work on. He can get better.
Obviously, he’s a very good player now. But in a couple of years if he carries on, I don’t see any reason why he could not be regarded as the best.”

Benitez was dismissed after less than six months in Real Madrid.
He is not known for not having a good personal relationship with his players, as he prefers to keep them at arms length and Ronaldo thinks it affected his relationship with the big players in Real Madrid.
He said: “Truthfully, with some coaches you have more empathy than others. The players feel more empathy for Zidane.
“I did my job naturally under Benitez. I was serious and did the best for the club, independent of the person who is in charge of the team.”
“I have never had a bad opinion of Rafa. He always did the best for Madrid, but he sees football in a different way from Zizou.”
